CYCLE SHOP REVIEW
Several months ago I was approached to do a review for a cycle shop in Bath! as we are based across the other side of the country we thought it would be a bit far for us to go. Although we did love the Hand made cycles they were showing on there Web site and Facebook pages it would have been very tempting but for the distance. Never having reviewed a shop before it was a challenge I would have relished, so this is how I came about to check out the Discount Cycles store in Shenfield Essex, it was a Tweet they did on Twitter, saying they had a Bike Fitting Service, as I had previously reviewed bike fitting services so it caught my eye!
Discount Cycles are situated on the corner of Hutton road and Chelmsford road just by the set of lights, they have a few spaces for car parking behind the shop around the corner in Hutton road, I found parking no problem, would recommend reversing into the space as it makes it easier to get out on to the busy junction.
On entering the shop I was greeted warmly from an assistant named Steve he made me feel most welcome and took me round on a tour of the store, it was like an Aladdin's cave, don't be fooled by the small range of cycles at the front of the shop [many an hour could be spent wandering around the back and side rooms of this store] and what a very nice range of bikes they had on display, it was set out in categories ie children's corner away from the adults section, then bike section after bike section, Road, adults, Mountain bikes etc, everything including unicycles! what did catch my eye was a Dawes Tandem! hanging on the wall! When was the last time you went into a bike store and saw a tandem, I then began to realize the sheer volume and variety of cycles carried by this rejuvenated local shop. [Arkwright eat your heart out!] the days of only going to the local bike shop for a puncture repair kit or a bell for the kids bikes are gone [although they do sell them] you no longer have to buy a bike from a well know car parts/in car stereo store that sells a limited range of bikes, sold by a youth who doesn't know the difference between a gear splitter and a ear splitter!
